Lights, Camera, Fish on!

So, I thought I'd try something different and actually tape myself pulling in lake trout this weekend. I put my camera on the tripod and recorded the action when I had a fish on. Not too much action the last couple of days, it was partly sunny throughout the weekend and the fish were not hitting spoons at all, flat-lining or with the downrigger so I tried some controlled drift-jigging.

Here are the results - If a picture says a thousand words, a video says ten thousand words? Thus, less typing for me.......

I've noticed over the years I've been catching lake trout that if the laker ends up under the boat, 80% of the time, barbed, or barbless, high line tension, or low line tension, stiff rod, or lighter action rod, single, or treble hook, that this happens:

Which is why I try to keep ahead of the the trout using my motor, so that an angle forms between my line and the fish - I'd say try to keep a 45 degree angle - seems to work out better and you'll land more togue.

Lake Trout caught in the past couple of weekends

Here are some pics of some Trout caught the past couple of weekends. Sandra's cousins came up the weekend before last, and my Uncle, Aunt, and cousins came up this past weekend. Nothing out of the ordinary to note. Other than a 1 - 1.5 lb largemouth that I caught. That's 3 largemouth now, and the biggest yet. I guess there are established populations of largemouth in our lake now..... Unfortunately one of the trout were hooked through the eye / gills and died - so we kept it. If you notice one of the fish Adam is holding, it has a missing eye - it has likely been caught before (maybe by me) and was blinded. Good to know they can still hunt with one eye and survive.

Reddy the Sheriff, Tiger the Deputy

I thought I'd break up the fishing festivities with a doggie story:

Some pics of Kev and Sonya's dog Reddy playing with Tiger in the backyard (click on pic to enlarge).

According to Kev, Reddy has never been seen playing with other dogs, as he prefers the company of humans. However Tiger is the most relentless puppy ever and would not stop bugging Reddy, resulting in hair standing on the back of his neck, growling and teeth showing. We thought Reddy would kill Tiger - Kev and I decided to take a chance this time and let them "work it out on their own".

Then suddenly Reddy gave in and played with him!

Afterwards, Reddy would always be on the alert for rogue squirrels and would run off to fend off the invaders. Tiger would run off with him every time, to investigate evidence of deviant squirrel activity.
