So I've been up to the cottage a few times already, since May. I've been out probably 4-5 times fishing. And I haven't caught one fish. Not one. A few bites. Had one on. But none landed. What gives? Granted the year has been unseasonably cold (there's still no thermocline), but this is a really weird start to the season.
Anyway - thought I'd give our new product a plug: My buddy and I developed a fishing line cutter to cut Fireline / Braid / Mono that attaches to your fishing rod. Check it out at http://www.zipcutpro.com.

I've had a similar season so far for splake. We did really well right at ice out (got a new personal best at 8lbs 9oz)but can't get anything going since they moved out of the shallows. Water temp is 61 degrees right now and I'm marking a lot of fish deeper.
Just gotta keep plugging away I guess. :)
Wow 8 lbs. You should send me the pic. What were you using to catch it?
Nice day of fishing Cadman. I finally got fishing for the first time in Junand caught 3. 1 was 31 inches so it was over 10lbs.
I just noticed you wrote back to my comment. :)
I caught the splake on a perch coloured Berkley frenzy minnow flat lining with 100 ft of line out. The ice had just gone out the day before and the fish were up shallow along the shore.
Here is a link to a pic

It was a female and the colours were pretty drab.
Here's one I caught through the ice with better colours
