First Lake Trout of 2009

Hooked: 7
Landed: 5

Water Temp: 16.8 degrees C
Weather: Sunny, windy
Water Action: Wavey
Thermocline: NONE! (This is really late in the year not to have a thermocline)

Ok. So it's been a really slow month. But the trout made up for the last month's disappointment by feeding voraciously on my lures. They were hitting jigs, spoons, you name it they were hitting it. Even the neighbors were catching fish.

I've switched back to Fireline Crystal 10 lb line from Fireline charcoal 6 lb. Although this means my lure will be higher in the water column, I had most success with this bright coloured line (perhaps they're attracted to it?)

We were speculating that the fish weren't hungry, that all the baitfish on the sonar were giving the trout plenty of food so they weren't hitting my lures. However if you'll notice the fish are quite skinny, they don't have the full bellies that we're used to. Perhaps the Bass are spawning late this year and the fish are famished?

Here are the fish - they range from 2-3 lbs.

Skunked. Skunked. and Skunked!

So I've been up to the cottage a few times already, since May. I've been out probably 4-5 times fishing. And I haven't caught one fish. Not one. A few bites. Had one on. But none landed. What gives? Granted the year has been unseasonably cold (there's still no thermocline), but this is a really weird start to the season.

Anyway - thought I'd give our new product a plug: My buddy and I developed a fishing line cutter to cut Fireline / Braid / Mono that attaches to your fishing rod. Check it out at http://www.zipcutpro.com.
